Death by drowning is one of the leading causes of death by accident for children in Tajikistan. The country has many mountain rivers and irrigation channels and during the summer it’s extremely hot.
Deaf children in Tajikistan are widely under served. Many of them have little to no access to quality educational services. Outside of the World Associates Sign Language Project, families of young children, ages 2-6, in the Sughd Region of Tajikistan have no early intervention sign language options.
Tajikistan faces a significant challenge: limited job opportunities, particularly for deaf citizens. The deaf community often lacks access to programs that develop essential skills needed to participate in the workforce, hindering their ability to secure even basic jobs.
The well project is helping one village respond to this challenge. We secured the rights to a well near the farmland of a collective of 11 families. This provided much-needed water throughout the growing season.
The arts are a powerful way to communicate important messages that often go beyond words to speak more deeply to the heart. Local communities in Tajikistan have unique cultural gifts and artistic expressions that are a part of their identity and an effective means of communication.
Rural mountain communities in Tajikistan are poised to benefit from their spectacular settings, but to do so they need the ability to increase tourism and capture tourist dollars coming through their areas.
Tajik government ministries regularly make requests of organizations like World Associates for social causes. These requests often take the form of supporting local charities, contributing to national campaigns, particularly around key holidays and events
