WELL PROJECT

Many villages in Tajikistan have fertile land, but lack access to water. This forces men to migrate to Russia for work, leaving families behind for years, causing significant hardship.

The Well Project is helping one village respond to this challenge. We secured the rights to a well near the farmland of a collective of 11 families. This provided much needed water throughout the growing season. The benefits extended beyond the 11 families. The increased income allowed them to hire local villagers during planting and harvesting, boosting the entire community’s economy.

The project established a community development fund, where the families contribute a portion of their increased income. Each year, the community will decide how to use these funds for projects that further improve their village.
