SWIM and WATER SAFETY PROJECT
Death by drowning is one of the leading causes of death by accident for children in Tajikistan. The country has many mountain rivers and irrigation channels and during the summer it is extremely hot. That is an equation for tragedy in a society that often does not have the resources to teach its youth how to swim.
Our swim instruction project works with both children and adults — primarily from poor families. The program consists of 11 sessions that focus on water safety, swim skills, rescue methods, and first aid (adults also receive CPR instructions). The training culminates in a 50-meter swim test.
We have also added adult swim classes, because of interests by parents and the community.
